Now out on his own and truly alone our main character spends his time drinking and wallowing in depression much as he did in the beginning of the story. He begins to see the apparition of his wife increasingly more often but each time he reaches for her or starts to talk she vanishes. It continues for weeks, then months. He begs for her to stay and speak with him even… if only a whisper.

Stormy eyes
This is so unreal
My emotions I cannot conceal
Maybe it’s just the pain
Locked inside my troubled mind
Maybe it’s my dark shame, this guilty rage
That eats at me inside
Hollow
I die each night

How is it that you are here?

A trick of light, the devil’s scheme
Maybe my conscious’ call, the lack of sleep
Or just the alcohol

If only I had stayed by your side

If only I was able to sacrifice

Braving this cold existence
Regretting all that I’ve done

Past this demon you now despise
